MY VW BAY WINDOW PICKUP (1974)
If you have never brought a Volkswagen Camper before, for goodness sake do what I did and take a couple of people with you who know their stuff!

I brought the van off of ebay in the summer of 2004 from a guy in
Stoke-on-Trent. I was told that the van would never make it back to Brighton in the condition it was in so I had to hire a van and trailer.
At the time I had never driven anything bigger than a Renault Clio so as you can imagine I was a tad nervous. To accompany me on the trip were Max and Chris.

From the photos below the van looked in reasonable condition and the guy selling it described that it would need a little bit of welding. In fact when we saw the van for ourselves it was a VERY different story.
I won the auction for £650 but as the van was not up to scratch I knocked him down £100.

I have to admit though as soon as I saw the heap of rust, I fell in love with it!

Max started work on it in September 2004 around 3 months after I had brought it. Max pretty much replaced and re-welded around 70% of the panels and gave it a couple of coats of its original (if not a little louder) colour of orange.

It was legally on the road in February 2005 and since then it has made countless journeys to Cornwall and Devon.
